The Tradition Continues…
A strong passion of Carl's is food— it's an inherited passion. Carl's great, great grandmother, Elisa Ugolini, was born in Northern Italy and cooked for royalty in Rome. After immigrating to America before the turn of the 20th century, she and her husband, Lallo DeCastro opened restaurants in Watertown and Clayton. It was the beginning of a five generation legacy.
Michaelangelo (Paul) and Eleanora (Nora) DeCastro, who founded the Roma Restaurant in 1948, were second generation. Carl & Lucille Petitto and Mario & Judy DeCastro purchased the Roma in 1962, marking a third generation. Carl's son, Greg Petitto, grew up in the business and knew the passion for as long as he can remember. After high school, he worked at the Roma under the tutelage of his father and uncle for 12 years.
In 1984, Greg left the Roma to open his own restaurant along with his wife, Carolyn Petitto, marking a fourth generation. In September of 2008, their son, Carl Petitto, purchased Greg's Restaurant and is continuing with the same great food and service.
"It's a privilege and an honor to continue the Greg's and Roma tradition of quality and consistency. The recipes are from the old country and will remain unchanged as they have over five generations."
— Carl Petitto, Proprietor
